History of Felabration in Nigeria

Felabration is an annual music festival conceived in 1998 by Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti in memory and celebration of her father Fela Kuti, a Nigerian musician and human rights activist known for pioneering the afrobeat genre of music.[1] The one-week-long event which is held annually at the New Afrika Shrine in Ikeja, attracts visitors from different countries and has thus been considered as an official tourist destination by the Lagos State Government.[2] Felabration is held on the week of Fela's birthday. The event features musical performances from top music acts from Nigeria and guest appearances from internationally acclaimed musicians and personalities.[3] It also consists of street parades, symposia on social and topical issues, debates and photo exhibitions.[4]
FESTIVAL FELABRATION During the burial ceremony of FELA ANIKULAPO-KUTI in August 1997, almost a million Nigerians participated in the funeral procession - a seven kilometre march from TAFAWA BALEWA SQUARE on the Lagos Island to his residence in Ikeja on the Lagos mainland. An entire nation rendered homage not only to an exceptional musician and creator of Afrobeat, but also an untiring combatant for the dignity of Black people. FELABRATION FESTIVAL since 1999 is an annual event of music and arts taking place at the New Africa Shrine in Lagos Nigeria, to commemorate the life and times of Nigeria’s foremost musical icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. As part of the festival’s programme a carnival procession is organised annually to re-create the atmosphere of the funeral procession of 1997. Due to security concerns from the government and logistic reasons, Felabration carnival has since been reduced to cover Ikeja, Ojota, Maryland and Agidingbi areas of Lagos

David Adedeji Adeleke (born November 21, 1992),[1][2] better known by his stage name Davido, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer. His 2011 single "Dami Duro" was well-received throughout Nigeria. Along with his elder brother Adewale Adeleke, Davido is the co-owner of HKN Music (a record label home to Sina Rambo, B. Red and DeeKay).[3][3][4] He has produced songs for Naeto C, Skales, Tiwa Savage and Sauce Kid.
